Short bio: Roger Varney's research focuses on using numerical models and ground-based instrumentation to study ionospheric plasma physics and magnetosphere-ionosphere coupling, with a particular emphasis on ion outflow physics. He is the lead developer of the ionosphere/polar wind model (IPWM) and highly experienced in analysis of ground-based ionospheric data, especially data from incoherent scatter radars (ISR).
